Sander

Nature of the position

A sander is a skilled worker responsible for sanding and finishing surfboards, stand-up paddleboards, and other composite equipment. They work after the shaping and lamination stages to ensure a perfectly smooth surface, ready for finishing or painting.

Duties and responsibilities

Preparing Surfaces for Sanding
Identify the boards to be treated, check the previous steps (shaping, lamination), note any visible defects, and prepare the work area.

Sanding boards
Perform sanding by hand or using electric sanders, taking into account the curves, contours, and finishing requirements. Work with various types of materials: PU foam, EPS, fiberglass, epoxy resin, or polyester resin.

Quality Control and Touch-ups
Identify imperfections (bubbles, layering defects), and perform any necessary touch-ups before finishing or painting.

Workshop Cleaning and Maintenance
Maintain a clean, safe workspace that complies with hygiene standards. Clean tools and manage dust and waste.

Implementation of safety procedures
Wear personal protective equipment (masks, goggles, gloves) and follow the guidelines regarding fine dust and solvents.

Desired profile

Technical Skills
Proficiency in sanding tools, knowledge of composite materials (foam, resin, fiber), precision in hand movements, ability to work on custom projects.

Personal Qualities
Attention to detail, patience, consistency, and a commitment to quality work. Physical stamina and keen observation skills. Adherence to safety protocols.

Languages
Not required, but the ability to understand technical instructions in English is a plus in an international workshop.

Education and experience

Technical training or a CAP/BEP in a craft trade or composite materials. Previous experience in a surfboard shaping shop or in the manufacture of sporting goods is a plus.

Hierarchical and functional relationships

Reports to: Workshop Manager or Manufacturing Team Leader.
Internal interactions: Shapers, glazers, order pickers.
External interactions: Customers during workshop visits.
