Brendon FERRIER

Australian kneeboarder who gained a PhD in the biomechanics of aerial surfing in 2020 from Edith Cowan University in Perth, Western Australia in conjunction with Surfing Australia’s High Perofrmance Centre. Brendon started discussion with Andy Hadden in 2017 to develop the worlds first partnership between an academic institution and commercial wave pool, which was officially launched in October 2025. During this time Brendon has been principal supervisor for Dr Jamie Marshall’s work around surf therapy and mental health and Damaris Morales Masters work on measuring energy expenditure during a wave pool-based surf session. In 2024 Brendon and his work at the Surf Lab supported Lost Shore in the procurement of their first wetsuit rental/surf school fleet of wetsuits. Blindly testing a range of wetsuits for their thermal properties, so Lost Shore could provide the warmest wetsuit to suit the cold Scottish winters. Since then, Brendon and the team at Lost Shore have provided opportunities for visiting researchers and academics to experience the Surf Lab and start to grow surf science within a collaborative environment.
